Kano Abuse or Filipina Abuse
I took this video of the Philippines while walking around Bogo City. Its typical, my harassing Jessie, she harassing me. I guess we both enjoy it. Well, I don’t guess, I know we both enjoy it. Hopefully it shows. It shows the ordinary sights and sounds of the Cebu. Its too bad, you can’t smell the fresh bread cooking all over the city. Its not meant to a fancy, professional tourist video. Instead, its more like the Blair Witch Project, minus all the fear. Well other than the fear caused by crossing a street in the Philippines.
Some Filipina we run across in town like the camera while others run for cover. Most of the pinoy (men) like to show out and are very friendly. My camera is old so it is big. They may think its a professional rig. Far from it. Its just 10 years old and in electronics time, that’s old. It even uses video tape! haha
This is a video of Jessie and I walking in Bogo City. As you can see, crossing the street is often an adventure. It may seem worse than it is. It doesn’t seem unusual to me any more. It seems pretty tame. Perhaps, I have been somewhat assimilated. I have a long, long way to go.
In the park, it felt like I was a hunter, seeking out the elusive Filipina. Peering between the palms as the shy “animal” sneaks away. Kind of had the feel of an animal planet safari. haha
I hope you enjoy this little seven minute movie of my Cebu Experience.

Hey Rusty,
A great video, Bogo City looks a lot like Maasin City in a way, small and nice. I notice the tricycle or “motorcabs” as they are called in Leyte are different there in Bogo.
I wish I had taken more video when I was there, but did take almost 3000 pics when I was there..thanks for sharing.
Danny
Thanks Danny
They are different in Tacloban than they are in Ormoc, both in Leyte.
They are different in Cebu City than they are in Bogo City.
They vary quite a bit from city to city. I can’t remember if they were the same in Talisay (burb of Cebu City) than from Cebu City itself.
My favorite so far are the ones in Tacloban but I was only there for a couple of days, maybe three. Two nights I think. They are bigger. I just looked up Massin on the net, I suspect they are much different from those in Tacloban since its no where near it. I don’t know though.
I really needed to see that video. I have been missing the PH so bad lately. It’s not the women, although they are really nice. I think it is the sound! You just can’t get that anywhere else.
If you haven’t been there you just wouldn’t know what I mean. It’s like when you walk out of the airport in Manila… you just know your home.
Thanks so much for that. It reminded me a little of Antipolo.
At my place in Iloilo it’s not quite that raw but I love everything about the Philippines.
HI Randall,
Glad you liked it. I have more and will add them as I can.
Thanks for posting the video.I go to the Philippines about every 2 years with the filipina wife. I start missing it within weeks of whenever I return to the USA. I expect I’ll be joining you permanently in Cebu in a couple years, though I will be closer to Dumaguete.
Dumaguete looks like a nice place to me. Litle mountain city near there, I forget the name that really looks nice except high rate of dengue there
Your welcome, there will be more
After taking my bath in my swim shorts outdoors this morning, I couldn’t help but think of home in Mindanao. Your video brings a sense of urging that I experience often when I’m walking and smell the burning of wood here in Basking Sun, Florida. I miss too the smell, sounds and smiles of the Filipino people and anxious to get back to the Philippines this fall. Looking forward to seeing any videos you have time to post Rusty, Thanks, Kuya.
Hello Nerdizen!
Your welcome. Your name is Kuya?
I have lots, I will add more.
For a long time I could record them but I didn’t have a PC that was capable of creating something interesting with them. Now I have too many and feel over whelmed with them all. LOL
I wrote an article about the sound of the rain here in the Philippines last night.
Most of my Filipino friends in the village call me Kuya and my Internet friends, just call me Nerdizen. I’m down near Pagadian, in Zamboanga del Sur in a place called, Lakewood. I’m thinking of moving closer to the water, because I love to fish everyday that I feel well. Thanks for the response.
Aww okay Kuya,
So you’re in Florida now but you are from Zamboanga del Sur. Sure is some pretty country down that way. I’ve only seen it from pictures. I know people go but I’d be a bit fearful. I could probably be talked into it though.
Yes, I’m visiting my family here in Basking Sun, Florida right now, but will be back home in October. Yes, Rusty, the Philippines in general is a beautiful place, but the island of Mindanao is gorgeous, as are the people. From inside to outside, the mannerism and the kindness is bar none to any group of people I have ever encountered in my travels and stays throughout the world.
Kuya,
So how is your trip going.. Have you been to the USA before? Do you like it? Hate it? If you’ve travelled a lot then I suppose the new has worn off.
I wonder how it will seem to me when I get back. If I get back. I use to be sure I would, now, i wonder… I suppose if i live long enough. to be honest, I don’t think I will.
Friendliness is a central to the Philippines. Not all areas are friendly to me though. Not far from your home, I would need an army to go with me if I went in there BUT then some people even go to Sulu without trouble.
Last year I read a story of a couple of American’s travelling through that area by sail boat, they talked about stopping on an island in the Philippines where all the locals where Muslim. They talked how nice and friendly the people were. They mentioned they were on their way to Indonesia. Sounds like Sulu to me and I don’t think they even knew nor did they know how much danger, I perceived them to be in.
I should probably go to bed. My spelling is getting bad. Well, “badder” than normal.
Hi Rusty. I was born on an Air Force Base in the United States, but like most military brats, we traveled every four years to a new location. Our travels took us to Portugal, the Philippines, England, Turkey and out west to Wyoming and Idaho. After living overseas most of my life, it feels really awkward being in America. Everything is so expensive here and not everyone is so friendly. Everyone here seems to be in such a hurry. I’ve only had one death-defying experience and that was when our bus stopped at a checkpoint in Lanao del Norte and all the men had to get off the bus and stand alongside the road with a ditch behind us. The militia keep two guys from the bus and the rest of us were allowed to get back on. Still to this day, I wonder about the fate of those two guys. I remembered going through Sultan Kudarat, but that was without incident. In fact, it is so beautiful in Mindanao, its sometimes surreal. You feel like you’re walking around in a postcard-everything seems so lovely. It’s like living on a razor’s edge when I’m home in the Philippines. I feel so alive and there is never a boring moment. Take your rest now, Kuya.
Awww, so you’ve been all over and you sill like the Philippines best. That’s awesome!
They guys that stopped the bus and took t he too men off were rebels or where they Philippines Armed Forces?
If you get into parts of Georgia, Tn. Mississippi and Alabama and New Orleans, I think you’ll find friendlier people than you will in Florida. If you get out of the big cities, you’ll also find he pace has slowed down a bit.
I want to go back for a visit just to see how it will all seem to me.
really enjoyed the BOGO walk video..
nice 2 see the real Philippines
Thanks John, I need to get more up, I also need a couple more of me.

Cheers,

Hi James,
Thanks!
You’re coming to Bogo or some other town?
There are several places to stay. If you’re looking for cheap, Bogo Pension House I suppose though I’ve never stayed there. there are cheaper places too. If you want something nice try Nagano Pension House or better yet is Nailon Resort. I nice place a bit out further of town is Virgin Beach Resort and low cost.
