Bridging the Provinces of Cebu and Bohol
When I first learned of this, I thought it was a joke but it is being reported by most of the Philippine newspapers. There are plans to build a bridge that will link the Provinces of Cebu and Bohol l
ocated in the Central Philippines.
Cebu is a shopping and shipping power house in the Philippines, not to mention becoming more of a player in the passenger air business. Bohol is a bit of paradise, mostly untouched by the masses. It is home to the Tarsier, floating restaurants, resorts and chocolate hills.
This would be a major undertaking and something that would be a marvel to see. The mayor of Cordova, part of Metro Cebu says money for the project will be found. Already three million dollars has been set aside to pay for a feasibility study.
I would love to see this happen but I would hate to see Bohol to grow to the point that what makes it so popular is destroyed. It is high on my list of places to visit. The Tarsier is a primate that is extremely shy and discovered only recently. They are often referred to as look a likes for gremlins. That are endangered so they are heavily protected.
The name of Friendship Bridge is a perfect name. It truly fits in with the culture of the Philippines where Friendships are treasured.

Someone told me Tarsiers are called “Kagwang”. Would someone confirm this?
Jessie knows all about Tarsiers as does just about every Filipino but she doesn’t know that word. If someone told you that, then someone most call them that. I’m willing to b some people do, probably the locals before the world discovered them.
Terry says they’re not called “Kagwangs”. I’ll have to clarify this when I go back. The locals in the old days might have called them that.
Christine, I just made a research on kagwangs and actually you can google the term and it is a kind of flying lemur and a nocturnal animal. The tarsiers are wide awake during day time and you could not visit or see them when it is dark because they are sleeping. so that means they are not kagwangs, they ae not nocturnal.
Thanks Terry. The person who told me this was probably wrong. Bohol sounds very nice, many places to visit. I think the bridge will spoil it. Look at what happened to Mactan Island. But I don’t think we can hold progress. We might want to, but the govt. will not agree with us. Hopefull the bridge constuction will provide jobs to the people there, and even afterwards…..
It is 10:02 pm for us now and my husband is packing up his laptop for a business trip to charlotte, North Carolina. We will going to bed soon. goodnight everybody!!! talk to you tomorrow night. I have to work tomorrow…
Terry, you’re right. I spoke to my brother last night and he confirmed that Tarsiers are not Kagwangs.
I found video shots on line about Bohol. I’ll try find it and post the link here.
They really do look like Gremlins!
I still say, just because most areas call them Tarsiers that doesn’t mean that the same is true every where in the Philippines. I suepect most people would only know them by Tarsiers.
Most Filipino seem pretty proud to have these creatures here. They have found more now. In Indonesia and Malaysia too. Several species have been found.
I really want to visit Bohol
Terry, here’s a couple of links of beautiful Bohol in video. If you Google Bohol, you get a lot of choices, but these are about the best, not too jerky. It’s not professional quality, but reasonably good and clear.
If you’re wondering why my pics not appearing, I’m at work at the moment, I’m using the hospital computer.

Christine, have I thanked you for the site…thanks so much. I checked it out and saw a lot of pics of Bohol. You should put Bohol in your priority list – you will see things you will never find in other places. when are you going home? How long? Enjoy!!!
Hopefully, we should be in Cebu by 26 June. Sadly, we only have 15 days this time, because of my daughter’s schooling. She did not want to miss school again like we did last year. We will be staying in Cebu Island for now. I also hope to catch up with a good dentist. I’ve applied for 4 weeks December next year. It’s just with my job, I have to request holidays one year ahead.
Rusty, have you tried that Dentists in Bogo? are they any good?
Christine…at least Australia is not that far from PI…it takes me 23 hours to go home including airport layovers. I have to have at least 3 weeks to enjoy, the flight will take almost 4 days back and forth.
When does your school start? My daughter’s ends first week of June but we have a lot of travels due to soccer. so, it is hard to go on vacation after school plus tickets are very expensive during these times.
My cousin is married to a dentist but they live in Cebu City.
My husband was just telling me a few minutes ago that Al-Quaeda is taking over Pakistan…did you hear this news?
June 26 is my daughter’s last day of school. June is only actually a short holiday. They only have 2 weeks. She has to be back by the 13th of July. They have the big one in December-January (2 months). That’s why I’ve asked for a month then. I do hope to visit Bohol next year when I have more time.
Singapore air is a bit dearer than most. But I’m happy to pay the extra because it is the most direct flight. It will take us 14 hours from Brisbane to Cebu, including a 3 hour stop in Singapore. I’m looking at AU$1,130 per person. That’s direct with Singapore air. Travelers are heavily taxed here too. I looked up the breakdown of that fare last night. It’s about AU$580 for fuel surcharge, AU$400 for airport taxes including departure tax, and the rest is the actual fare. I know if I want to travel in December, I wil have to book a flight 6 months before. X-mas is very busy, and seats are competitive. At this time of the year, it is cheaper to fly. Prices have actually fallen. I was looking at AU$1,400 only a month ago.
I haven’t heard about the AL-Qaeeda thing. I have heard Pakistan have given them refuge in Pakistan.
Thanks for the Dentist info. I have a good Cebu dentist, Dr. Jorgio. But I hate the traffic from Consolacion to the City. Oh well, if I can’t find a good one in Bogo, I will just have to go back to him. He said he can do the procedure in one visit.
