Smoking in the Philippines
The price of smoking in the Philippines is about to increase. The DOH has proposed a 400% increase in tobacco taxes. The cost of a pack of cigarettes is expected to rise from P30 to P120 if the DOH gets what they want.
I wrote a store on a new site I’ve created so I wont repeat it here and because I’m lazy and hate writing the same thing twice. haha

HI Rusty,
Depending on what brand, most big name brand cigarettes are well over $5.00 a pack, and I live in Florida. Places like New York City, I have heard well over $6.00.
I really was so surprised when I visited Leyte this past April/ May that you could buy a “stick” for 1 peso, or however many you want. But then its the Philippines..I am not much surprised anymore about the things in the Philippines, is so different, but good.
I for one quit smoking last September, although I get the urge to smoke once in a while..so far so good. Aside from health reasons, I quit because it was too expensive now…last summer I was paying around $3.60 a pack for my “generic” brand cigarettes, then they jumped the taxes up on them, and it became over $5.00 a pack…ridiculous.
So is good actually, because know I actually feel better and healthier, now just need to lose a few pounds, because I definitely put more on when I quit smoking…..take care now.

Hi Danny,
Yeah, when I smoked everyone was pretty much charging the same thing I know that all changed when the prices went through the roof. This could just be the start of it here.
P7 will be a lot for the average Filipino. And the expats have become use to Filipino prices, including me, when I go back to the USA for a visit, I’ll probably be shell shocked myself.
Personally, i wish they make the things illegal to help me stay away from them! They wont, of course, but…
