Estrella Falls In Pictures
Jessie and I visited Estrella Falls in Palawan, Philippines. It is a beautiful place as I hope the pictures will show. It is in the jungle and you are likely to be joined by wild monkeys along with the cool waters of the river that flows through the Estrella Falls Park.
You can read the related article by following this link: Thunder in The Jungle — Estrella Falls
Beautiful looking place.
Yeah, it is Randall, it is…..
Rusty,
Regarding tankless/toilet/tabo, it’s a better way of cleaning yourself. Took time to get used to instead of T P, but all of life is an adjustment it seems…
Hi Rusty,
Very interesting article. Tell Jessie she’s lovely filipina
and nice bikini too. Enjoyed all the pics of the trip and
“forced labor” camp. Have you been and/or written about Boracay?
If so, where would you recommend staying, eats, etc?
I have not been to Boracay. I will some day but it isn’t high up on my list.
I think Bantayan Island makes more sense, a LOT cheaper. Bantayan has some weeds in the water. That is they will come floating in. I’ve seen some people moan about that.
Many places on Boracay even accepts USD, I’ve been told it is the main currency there others say they use peso. So, I guess both is true but that you cause USD there says something.
I think there are probably better places to experience the Philippines at half the cost. Still, I want to see it all so I will go one day.
Higher up the list are Manila (I’ve only seen the airport ha ha), Bohol, Mt Mayaon, Sinulog in Cebu City (I have reservations for this year already), Bagiuo, Davao, a civet coffee farm near Davao, Malapascua. These are all likely to come before Boracay.
My next trip will be to Tacloban. I had hoped to go in August and I may still but I spent a lot more in Palawan than I expected too.
I got paid by uncle sam though so we may still go.
Rusty,
Cancel one trip and you overcome the decline in purchasing power…
I can’t cancel what I have not planned. 🙂
Just goals. I’ll go when I have the money to spare.
If the dollar was at 50 I could go now. That extra amount would pay for each of those trips every month.
It wouldn’t pay for the Palawan trip though. Far more expensive than normal but this time, I said, I’ll spend.
Thanks for the travelogue Rusty. Glad you had a good time there. I know sometimes when you have health problems, enjoyable adventures can be more difficult to find than they are for most. Enjoyed lovely pics its obvious you love Jessie very much. Maybe sometime I can share on this site an adventure or two I have had there, if you would like. I also have a contact in Bogo who could introduce you to the expat community there if you think an exposure to a wider variety of experiences in the Philippines would be helpful to you.
You’re welcome.
Are you talking about George Harmon? Never met him in person, get an email from him sometimes but then he disappears again. 🙂 He’s not here any more.
Most expats hang out at Tambayan and drink beer all day, not into that at all. 🙂 There are a lot of German and Dutch expats in Bogo. They also like Pizza Pub, I go there some but it has been a while. When I go out to eat here, I usually go to the BBQ by the Bay. That’s what I call it, they call it the Seaside BBQ I think. Good stuff, mostly Filipino there.
Always good to make contacts but I don’t get out much, you can give them my email address rusty@cebuexperience.com.
How long have you been living in the Philippines?
Hi Rusty,do you know anything about Butuan City and the area? I,ve been watching the weather and it seems they have been receiving a lot of sunshine lately.I have seen some pics of the area and it looks interesting? Hope you and your lady are having good health? Take care from Randall Connors the Canadian.
I know the name but that’s its. I recall looking up where it is but if it is sunny there now, it must not be where I’m thinking of. All of the Philippines gets a lot of sunshine. haha Too much for me. Due to lupus, sunshine is like poison for me.
Aww, I just looked it up on Google maps, yes it isn’t where I was thinking. Looks very remote and Mindanao is not high on my list of remote areas to be in. Probably NPA there but it is in east Mindanao. Generally, I would avoid rural areas in Mindanao. I say that but I also have loose plans to visit a rural area a couple of hours from Davao. There is a civet coffee processing farm there I want to see. I hope I get to go.
You’ll probably be fine but unless there is some reason to go, I’d stick with Cebu or Davao City. Mindanao is considered a refuge for typhoons in the Philippines. Davao though just had some substantial flooding. I think that is pretty rare there. It can happen any place but they’ve never had a typhoon there. They do have earthquakes there though. 🙂 Some bigs one down in Southern Mindanao. I’d be more concerned about MILF and Abu Sayyaf than the weather in those areas.
It is been a very wet rainy season in Bogo over the last month and especially the last two weeks.
I went to Virgin Beach Resort last week, so cloudy and rainy was really hard to get decent pictures which I made worse by fouling up my camera settings. Hey do you have a spare $1000 you want to give away to my favorite charity? I need a new camera, donate to me. LOL 🙂 Only kidding. I’ve been obsessing on buying a new camera lately.
There have been several storms in Asia, Japan is about to get slammed by a major typhoon and it is causing me to have a very slow internet connection. I assume that is what it is. Though it could be the storm in China as I’ve seen storms in that area affect my net before. Japan has a major data center though, Amazon has servers there and this site is served to some out of Japan and Singapore. That might be why it is slow for me right now. Everything is slow though.
I changed to my VPN and that seems to have sped things up a bit. Some area in the Philippines don’t see much of a rainy season, Cebu usually doesn’t have a pronounced difference in the dry and rainy season but we are having one this year!
Cebu was pounded with storms when I was in Palawan but I only saw one brief storm when I was there and that was in the mountains near Estrella. Wow, what a beautiful place.
