American Expat Kidnapped In The Philippines
The associated press is reporting an American Expat and retired Soldier was kidnapped along with his 19 year old daughter. The retired serviceman was later released but the daughter is being held for more than $67,000!
The kidnappers entered their home in Manila and took jewelry and other items worth over $2,500.00. The Manila police say that kidnapping gangs are common in the Philippines but are usually found in the south and that most kidnapping groups have been dismantled near Manila.

The girl was released the next day but the Police Chief in Manila said it was unclear if the Three Million Peso ransom was paid or not. That probably means it was but that is conjecture on my part.
If I had that kind of money, I would certainly pay it. Notice To KIDNAPPERS: You won’t get anything from me. 🙂 I don’t have it….
There were four kidnappers whom also stole jewelry, cell phones and electronics as well as the family car.
The girl was released not far from her home, near Manila, Philippines.

Hmm reading this story makes me a bit worried for when my children come to visit. Oh by the way when I saw your picture with Joe by it I immediately thought of Joe Camel! ha ha! Well at least he’s cool so don’t complain.
Joe Camel? LOL 🙂 Yea that’s me mr cool. 🙂
Visiting children probably not as dangerous as long term staying. You know, that’s one case in all the people that are here. She was Filipino\American.
You need to be careful. You watch discovery channel much? You’ll see the wildebeest al gather at the rever at the same time. They know their are crocks out there so they all cross at once. With so many hoofs in the water chances of their being the one taken are slim. The crocks are going to wait until most of the heard has passed then look for the lost calf that keeps crossing back and forth looking for its mother. Point is that they will usually take the easiest target. So exercise caution but do what you need to do.
Most expats totally dismiss the US State Departments warnings, I don’t understand that. It is at least worth reading and being careful.
I walk softly and carry a stun gun. LOL I’ve done a good deal of checking and as far as I can tell, they are legal. My GF’s brother is a Barangay Captain and he says they are legal. I sell them and I can export them to this country, some countries I can’t because they are not legal. I wish the Ph government would allow some of us to carry weapons but that gets you life in a Philippine prison and I can think of many other things I’d rather do with my time.
but most people have no problems here. The State Dept says to exercise extreme caution when in the Southern Philippines. I’d recommend the same thing in Jackson, Ms. or Memphis Tn. Both cities are gang invested and I do pack heat when I’m there.
Glad you are here.
