Cebu Pacific Air Dominates

Philippines Airlines has got be secretly pulling its corporate hair out.   Cebu Pacific, once again leads the Philippine airline business in terms of the most number of passengers.   It leads in both domestic and international in the first half of the year, the company said.

The Philippine Civil Aviation Board reported that Cebu Pacific flew 5,096,887 passengers in the January-June period, or 214,416 passengers more than Philippine Airlines (PAL), Cebu Pacific said in the statement.

PAL carried 4,882,471 passengers, while Air Philippines Express flew 667,686, Zest Air — formerly known as Asian Spirit —had 623,529 passengers, and Seair flew 132,638, the company said.

Cebu Pacific said it dominated the domestic air travel market in the first half of the year with a share of 48.7 percent, and carried 1.2 million passengers more than PAL.

The other day, I decided to look into one of Cebu Pacific Air’s special.  I received in an email for flights to certain cities for aboutjetP400 or P300 with their “Go Lite” offer.  I went through the process of picking my tickets for four (2 adults and 2 children) for flights to Tacloban from Cebu City and back.   I selected P399 and clicked next.   when it was done, I was presented with a price of about P3900.  What?  That’s nearly twice what the advertised price.  I didn’t bother to check out what caused the difference.  Taxes probably.  I really don’t care.  All I care about is what it cost me.   I decided I didn’t want to drive three hours to get to the airport, especially after the misleading offer.  So I quickly clicked the X and closed the
