I spent most of my time at Tristan’s sitting on this lounge chair watching the tide roll in and roll out.
Tristan’s is on the beach and at high tide it is in the water. While we’re there the tide changed often, coming in and out four times in about 24 hours.
We later went swimming, stepping off the stairs of the inn, right into the shallow waters of Santa Fe Bay.
My only minor complaint is there was a TV playing in the background. I could have done without that but it was not a major issue and the staff was so attentive, I can hardly fault them for their one minor vice.
Our room cost P1000 per day or about $21.00. Most of the rooms at Tristan’s cost P600 but there are two rooms closer to the sea and with a refrigerator. Room 1 faces the sea. I would ask for room one but if I couldn’t get it, it is likely that I would just stay in one of the P600 rooms.
If you enjoy playing cards or cribbage or dominoes. Might be a good idea to take some junk food along with you and save some money. We plan to next time. Tristan’s did not have any coke light, so I will be taking that with me next time.
When the staff discovered that Jessie and I were out of credits for our phone they offered to buy some for us. We sent them with P100 to get a card for us but it was late and the location was out of the P100 cards.
A local islander also ran several errands for us and rented us scooter and gave us lessons. Neither Jessie nor myself were very good at riding scooters so I spent some time riding up and down a mostly deserted street. I got much better fast. I never felt in full control though so I knew it was not wise to to get out in traffic. I was scaring the locals near there to death though as I wasn’t very stable at first.
Below you ‘ll find Jessie soak up some of her free time while playing with my phone and watching the waves come in. She’s such a gadget freak she can’t put them down at all.
Here’s a shot of Jessie while we walked on the beach:
Finally, I think I’ll end this tour with a picture of the wind surfer that showed up. He brought his beautiful wife with him but I didn’t get a picture of her on the board. The total cost for my first trip to Bantayan Island was P4500 or about $100. That included P600 for two scooters and various other odds and ends, phone credits, flip flops and tips. I can’t forget the all important San Miguel price, it was P45 a bottle. That is a bit high for the mainland. I don’t know about the island. Its probably about right there. I’ll know more soon.
In two weeks, unless something wrecks my plans, I’ll be spending two nights at Bantayan Island.
It took about six hours for me to write this one post. That does not include the time taken to process the pictures or the time I spent on Bantayan Island. Please make a donation if you found the information about Bantayan Island of use to you.

Hi! Thanks for the very nice article about Tristan”s Beach and Restaurant in Bantayan Island, Cebu. It’s a very encouraging comment especially from a foreigner’s point of view.Nancy’s hard work really paid off. Thanks so much! Well, I’m just the proud mom of Tristan, Nancy’s grandson.
Hi Karen, I love the place. It’s small but cozy and near the beach.
I love the food and the way they present it. I basically fell in love with the place.
And Nancy is awesome!
So this is the beach that might be in danger of running afoul with the law? As you’ve said, it is “near the beach”. It does look near the beach especially after seeing those white sands within the premises of the cottages.
But I love your pics of the food. I got hungry & it’s almost 1 am here. I would love to go there someday in Bantayan.
Yes, it might. If it does, I will not be going back to Bantayan because every resort on the place will be in violation and there will be no place to stay.
Its owned by a very wonderful Filipina.
Its my favorite place. maybe you should go visit.
So if I own the land next to the beach and it is more than 20 meters from high tide, I can put up a fence and pit bulls and private property signs with no trespassing. There are places like that on Bantayan. If they were all like that then I could only get to the beach from the sea. Makes no sense Roy.
Well, it makes sense if you want to keep the beach for the fish only. Lots of Filipino live on those beaches with their homes. They are fishermen. Very poor, very happy, very Filipino.
It makes no sense? Only if people do not make use of easements.
They only easements are rivers and streams, Roy, look it up. Those are there now. The resorts make it easier to get to and enjoy the beach.
So they should demolish all the Filipino homes across the shore line? There are LOTS of them.
Ok, if you say so. & so it shall be.
I’m not god, I’m just right. haha
Hi Karen,
How long has Tristan’s been in operation?
I think Nancy is the reason that place is so good. She’s very attentive!
The cook is great too.
I have a hard time with the heat and being right on the water like that keeps a nice breeze going and plenty of fans to help out.
Ok, I definately want to stay there when I go, which should be coming up in July. I haven’t noticed any mention of cost for a room there, though. Can somebody please give me an idea of the rates? Total rates, including taxes, would be very helpful. Thanks
Depending on what you want, the rooms run from P600 to P1100. More expensive rooms are next to water and have a fridge. I did cover the cost in detail some place.
Hope to see you, would love to go there with you but don’t know if I can. Hope so.
Hi Joe,
my husband and I are going there too in July. Hope to see you there. We might stay at Tristan’s too.
Hey! Wow! Thanks for the review… Going there this weekend! Yay!!! ^_^
Maria, please tell us about your trip when you get back!
Had so much fun!!! Told Nancy I saw your website
I also blogged in
^_^
I glad you liked it! I visited your page too. hope you come back by often and tell me what is so controversial about you! Nice pictures.
Hi buddy, thanks for the rates info. Yeah I’m sure I saw rates info posted by you somewhere, and then I couldn’t remember where, so I just figured I’d bug you for it again
I’m going to fly from Manila into Cebu, spend a few nights there, maybe at that Pacific Pension House that you mentioned. Then I’m gonna go to Bogo for a couple of days, then take a boat to Bantayan. I want to stay at Tristan’s for maybe 3 days, so I guess my next step will be to contact Nancy there and let her know when I am planning on visiting. As of right now I’m trying to fly from Pittsburgh to Manila around maybe July 7th, spend a couple days in Manila, then go to Tagaytay and check out Lake Taal and the volcano. Then when I get back to Manila I’ll head to Cebu for my Bogo-Bantayan segment of the trip. After I get back from those places I hope I can go southwest to Moalboal for a few days, then back to metro Cebu, and then I want to fly to Davao and spend a couple of weeks seeing Davao, Samal island and Maragusan. What do you think of that itinerary?
Hey Joe!
You’ll have seen more areas of the Island than me once you do all that. Sounds like a nice trip.
I know someone selling land on Samal Island, if you get ready to buy there, let me know. Even I could afford to buy land there!
I don’t know where those rates are.
Hi Rusty,
I have a half heactaree beach front in the Samal Island. If your interested, we can talk about it.
If you plan to visit Davao, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I might be able to bring you around the city.
I hope to meet you in Bantayan or Cebu this coming July 7 to 11.
neng
Hey Neng,
I’m interested in the route you’re taking to get to Bantayan Island. Are you going to Bogo and then a bus? Or Cebu City and a bus from there?
I doubt I’ll be on the Island then but never know…
email me when your in Davao. I might be of help. I live in Davao city.
neng

I have one. Jessie. I also know some that live on Bantayan. There’s one place on Bantayan I have not been too. D’Jungle. That’s where the locals go. That’s where i want to go.
But right now, I can’t take the heat so I probably wont go do the D’Jungle.
