UNICEF Takes Stand on Overseas Foriegn Workers

The Philippines has been actively supporting Filipino that wish to work overseas as a way to bring new cash into the financially developing country. UNICEF, a Children’s Fund that is a part of the United Nations (UN) is sending the alarm that it is mostly women that are taking these jobs to become domestic helpers and ripping families apart.

Another Day without Electricity

Jessie’s reasoning seemed sound and we both thought they would brown out Bogo City last Sunday. They didn’t but they were right on time today. I guess they are going to do it once per month but trying to figure out which month doesn’t seem to have a pattern. Tomorrow Jessie is going to call and ask how we can find out when they will turn the power off in Bogo City.

Cebu City Fisherman Blows Himself Up.

Philippine Dynamite Fishing

I was a bit surprised to find that dynamite fishing is still going on so close to a large metropolitan area but yesterday a Fisherman in Lapu Lapu died when a huge chuck of a coral reef broke away and landed on the man who was standing in chest deep water.

It seems to be not uncommon at all. A man was killed and his son blinded earlier this year when dynamite exploded before it was tossed into the water. There was at least one other dynamite fishing death in the area this year.

I sometimes look out across Bogo City and think how calm and peaceful things are here and how it could all change.
