I have been living in the Philippines for more than three years now. I love living in the Philippines but that doesn’t mean you will. It also doesn’t mean I’m living in heaven. Sometimes I use the word paradise loosely. It really isn’t a paradise but it is very close.

There is just no perfect place on earth and the Philippines has its share of dangers and problems. Things are not going to be up to your standard of living. Going for a walk can present problems. There could be an open manhole cover, a broken sidewalk with missing slabs with a deep hole waiting for you to stick your foot in. Even the little things require adjustments.

Love Emergency?

I’ve been trying to come up with something romantic to do for Valentines day. I guess I’m going to have to rely on just me. Funds are low, I’ll probably have to tap into savings this month just to meet required expenses, mostly to eat. We spent a little more than budgeted when I went for an overnight stay in Cebu City.

HIV on the Increase in the Philippines

A lot of people come to the Philippines in search of love. It is sometimes called sex tourism. Sometimes it includes human trafficking and slavery.

The Philippines has a lower incidence of HIV than most of its neighbors despite sharing many of the risks, but health officials warned on Thursday that many new cases were now coming to light.

The numbers are still low though, under 4000 known cases with only 300 new cases this year. That 300 cases though appears to be a large increase. It would be almost 10% of the total number of cases.
