The Language Barrier

Even though I’ve titled this series of post reasons not to move to the Philippines these are more accurately described as the less than positive issues about the Philippines. They are issues that each person should consider for themselves. I am not trying to discourage anyone from moving to the Philippines. I love the Philippines and I’m very happy to be here. My real intent is to help people better prepare themselves if they do make this major change in their life. I’m so glad I made it but I wish I had known more of the things since I got here.

Getting a Job In The Philippines

If you’re planning on getting a job after you move here, I doubt you have a clue what your getting yourself into. First, you can’t work here legally on a tourist visa. A tourist visa is how most of us come in. If you get married it is fairly easy to get a resident visa that will allow you to work. Though there are laws on the books to allow others to get a visa, there is very little change you’re going to get one of those.

Filipina

One of the main positives of the Philippines can easily turn into a negative. If you’re coming to be with a woman, you need to be ready for the possibility that she will not show up. You might want to even hire a private detective to check her out before you get to devoted and committed to her and certainly if you’re sending her money. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard, “I thought my girl was different.” Sometimes the girls fool themselves, thinking they can leave their home town to be with you. Sometimes the girl was only fooling you. Be very careful of that.

Negatives Of The Philippines

For me, the reasons to move to the Philippines far exceed the reasons not too. What might be a negative for me, could even be a positive for someone else.

The first thing you need to realize is your coming to a different world. From the US, you’re one-half way around the earth. When we were kids, we talked about digging a whole to the other side of the earth to end up in China. Kids here talk about digging a hole to get to the US.

Do You Really Want to Move to The Philippines?

I’ll first cover why you should move to the Philippines or retire in the Philippines. I think some people planning to move to the Philippines are doing the same thing. Others are either emotionally ready or intellectually ready but not both. Some just need more time. I think I was in the need more time category for a little while.
