Exploring The Streets of Cebu

While walking in Cebu City, I ran across this older Filipina and this picture is my favorite for the five day period.

I took her hand and held the back of it to my forehead. This ritual is called mano po and is a sign of respect. I’ve had children do this to me as I walk down the street. I pick at Jessie and ask her to give me mano po but she looks like she’s going to stick a spear in me instead. LOL

I so often take pictures of pretty young Filipina but I really like to take pictures of older people too. Their faces are so often full of character. This woman’s happy nature despite the likely hardships in her life is something that I see every day here in the Philippines. Its a part of the Philippines that is hard to get across in words. Beauty comes in many forms and there is beauty in this picture.

Valentines Day In The Philippines

Love Emergency?

I’ve been trying to come up with something romantic to do for Valentines day. I guess I’m going to have to rely on just me. Funds are low, I’ll probably have to tap into savings this month just to meet required expenses, mostly to eat. We spent a little more than budgeted when I went for an overnight stay in Cebu City.

Bus Trip To Cebu City

Living in Cebu & Bus Trips

Bus trips are a likely place for seeing things you’ve never seen before. Well, unless you’re a Filipino but even to Filipino, the activities on a bus can be surprising.

Street vendors often board the busses to sale their goods. Water and rice cakes are always a popular item on the buses. There will always be several people selling sunglasses too, though they don’t sell as well. News papers sell a little better. On our last trip, because we had one paper it was like the guy assumed we would want more newspapers from another source. He kept asking over and over. You have to give him credit for trying to earn a living in an honorable way.

My First Year Living In The Philippines

Reflections and Evolution in Opinion

I’ve been in the Philippines for a few days more than a year. I’ve learned a lot but still have much to learn. It is pretty amazing how differently people from different parts of the world think. Thinking of all the variations in humans from around the world, makes me a little surprised some haven’t tried to s ay we are different species. Maybe the racist have, I’ve heard them speak of “your own kind.” However, we are all the same species just very varied in our customs.

Churches of Cebu in Pictures

Church in Cebu

Pictures in the Series of Cebu Churches have been added to the blog. This month I visited Basilica del Santo Nino and have posed the pictures here.

My favorite picture in this month’s series was not religious in nature but is part of the culture around this busy religious center in Cebu City. I’ve posted the picture at the link above so I wont include it here as well.
